Many years ago, a concerned citizen of Lee Vining brought up the danger of speeding and reckless driving on Highway 395, the busy highway that passes directly through Lee Vining. Next, the Mono Basin Regional Planning Advisory Committee (RPAC) took up the cause.

Isn't it 25 in most of the other towns like Big Pine and Bishop?

Yes, but those are in Inyo County. Lee Vining is in Mono County. (Don't know if that's the reason.)

A quick, virtual tour of BDB (Beautiful Downtown Bridgeport) shows US395 to be 30 mph through the town.

It was 35 a couple of weeks ago. Did it change?

Almost assuredly the Street View pictures on Google Maps were taken previous to your passage.
(If they had no place else to put them, perhaps the 5 mph that they took away from Lee Vining was relocated to BDB.)

Street View shows 35 as well.

Went back to check. The one sign that I noticed as I virtually sped through was heading E on US395 at Twin Lakes Rd.; it reads 30.

It's been 35 for quite awhile until recently. For the last two years I've been there they have also had automated radar speed signs at each end of town, often with a cruizer sitting at one end of town.

Oh, Bridgeport! My aging brain was reading that as Big Pine. (sigh)

So Inyo thinks 25 is the proper speed, and Mono thinks 30 is better. Things that make you go hmmm.
