Overnight parking is not allowed on the Tioga and Glacier Point Roads beginning October 15.

Why?
Is it to facilitate snow removal or to better control hikers?

Neither. It's because the road can close for the winter suddenly.

Think "Donner Party".

The fact is that overnight a couple of feet of snow could fall and a car and it's occupants could potentially be trapped. Once there is significant snowfall, they stop plowing and let mother nature take over.

I am not sure I understand. Can you still park overnight in the Wilderness Permit office parking lot?

No. You cannot park overnight anywhere on Tioga Road (or Glacier Point Road).

No sure how much clearer they can make it:

Hammer applied to head wouldn't help?

Well maybe the link included in the first post would have made it clearer? Maybe it is a subtle point, but parking in a parking lot is not really parking "on" Tioga road. When I parked in July, I parked "on" Tioga rd near Pothole Dome. I was unsure if only that was no longer allowed. Notice how they worded it on the sign in the photo from the link? Anywhere as opposed to on. It does make it clearer seeing the photo.

Those of us who a Yosemite regulars are familiar with this restriction, as it is imposed every year around this time. I can understand your confusion and if I had not been previously aware of this closure, I might also have been confused.

Yeah. Fairly certain the sign is new. At least never recall seeing similar one.
Used to be that they said no parking beyond Badger Pass along GP road.
Maybe they changed that and added similar sign at the turn of GP road???
If not... they should... since you can't park AT Badger Pass until it opens
if I recall correctly. And... it's self reg by Halloween for stuff outside the valley.
Was all set to park overnight last year at BP to head to Ostrander and
called to verify and the lady had to check and said "no can do"... so had to
park at Chinquapin and hike a whole lot further...
Anyway, I think they added the sign on account way too many people parking
overnight after Oct. 15 just thinking what you thought. Def. understandable...

Babbling... but now that I think more I think they used to have a sign right
at Badger Pass about overnight parking...
