"YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK -- All roads into Yosemite National Park have been temporarily closed after a major storm dumped snow, caused mudslides and downed trees and power lines.

Park officials said Monday that power is out across Yosemite Valley and about 200 visitors are being evacuated.

Officials say the weekend storm dropped more than 3.5 feet of snow throughout the park in the last 24 hours, including in Yosemite Valley, Wawona, and Crane Flat.

Highways 41, 120 and 140 entering the park have been closed.

The California Highway Patrol says Highway 41 has been reopened outside the park despite hazardous conditions from snow and toppled trees. Downed trees and power lines have also shut down Highway 140 outside the park between El Portal and Midpines.

Officials say they're not sure when those roads will reopen. "

PG&E customers in Yosemite National Park and parts of El Portal will remain without power for three to six days as crews work to replace a transmission pole severed by a rock slide, a utility spokeswoman said this afternoon.

The slide in the Ferguson rockslide area on Highway 140 along the Merced River knocked out the pole and service to 585 customers during a weekend snow storm, said Nicole Liebelt, a Pacific Gas & Electric Co. spokeswoman.

A replacement pole, equipment and crews were flown in this morning to begin work to restore power between storms, Liebelt said.

Another storm is expected to arrive in the region later today.

PG&E crews and workers from other utilities will be on the job around the clock, though the stormy weather could hamper or halt work, Liebelt said.

PG&E officials are working with park officials to contact residents and help them with housing accommodations and access to warming centers while the area remains without power, she said.

Meanwhile, power is expected to be restored to all PG&E customers in Oakhurst by early this evening, Liebelt said. About 1,700 customers still were without power Monday evening.

About 720 Southern California Edison Co. customers remained without power this morning in Shaver Lake, said Lauren Bartlett, a company spokeswoman.

None of the utility's customers in Tulare and Kings counties were without power today, Bartlett said.

Once Winter is over, shouldn't it be called a Spring storm warning? Maybe even a "Winter like" storm warning.Pounding head on desk

True true. We just weren't all prepared for the roads being closed. All in all, I had a great trip even with the extension :-).
