OK, I put 1/10 of the photos I took here:
https://picasaweb.google.com/yosemite.chick.on/JackMain

The Lazy Bird got left behind... only Larry got to go.

I do hope that Mitch and his pals get up the canyon. It was a really great time
to go actually. Sometimes more snow is better than spring runoff where
you are walking in water. Since I was solo I was able to camp on pieces of
granite every night. I don't doubt they get up canyon further and use a snow bridge
to cross Falls Creek at some pt.

Day 1 was up Moraine and into Jack Main just beyond the Isthmus
Day 2 was up to Wilma then back down to Vernon
Day 3 was down to Hetch Hetchy Dome and play around
Day 4 out by heading east and dropping onto trail before Tiltill Creek bridge

As usual Yosemite is amazing. Hopefully the pictures do it some justice.

If you are familiar with the trails the conditions should be fairly obvious from the pictures.

Didn't see anyone until dropping onto Rancheria trail. Talked to 2 rangers on way out.
Pretty cool that they are checking for bear cans.

Was pretty happy that the ranger at the kiosk recognized me and after telling her
what the conditions were gonna be like was on my way w/o the normal schpeel.

Here's Larry atop Moraine Ridge.
Was pretty happy at this point since at least I'd get to do some downhill and
be in the canyon soon:

This one is one of my favorites.

The Isthmus from above:

If you zoom in you can see my snowshoe prints in the upper right:

On the Isthmus is also where I ran across the Ptarmigan.

NICE video of the creek; I especially like that chunk of ice with snow moving in the current.

I know that this is going to cause a collective gasp, but I like roaring creeks better than waterfalls. The trip down Yosemite Creek has the CREEK as the lasting memory, rather than the overcrowded waterfall viewing area.

The body betrays and the weather conspires, hopefully, not on the same day.

I like this waterfall; is it part of a creek that you can see? I really like the Tuolumne river because there are series of falls, but, they are visibly connected to the river -- lots of character.

I'm not sure how easy it would be to get upstream from the fall.

Bees say the funniest things. wink
You can't see it... but you can click click it.

Again, Mr. eeek is leading you astray by many miles.
Albeit that that there fall is "roaring", it's not in Yosemite.

Found it! worth the search.

(still catching up - intermittent internet has put me a little behind on forum stuff.)

So was there a ton of snow up there? Thinking we will head for Hetch Hetchy Dome the first weekend of June.

Good luck with that. You will need it.

The bridge at Vernon was taken out by the storm in Jan 97. (and obviously replaced since)

nice sound on the "creek" above Vernon! Does this one go dry in the summer? (not counting this summer, of course) I did not expect there to bee such a combination of BOTH roaring creek AND lots of snow. Usually , when you see this much snow, it is earlier in the season and the creeks are either buried or much slower. It IS an interesting combination.

As with most of the creeks as the summer rolls on and we get little to no rain for months
the creek will dwindle down to almost nothing by mid Sept.
As with Yosemite Creek and Snow Creek you'll be able to find water in it here and there.
Falls Creek ends at HH and feeds/is Wapama Falls... so pretty easy to see how it is flowing...
although late in the year you'd have to hike all the way to the bridges to see what
exactly / if anything is flowing over. I've seen it flowing in early October still...

Awesome pics, thanks for sharing bill-e. It's great to see where the snow level is so I can plan for next weekend.

So. With JMC being the midway of my June hike, it is where we decided to spend a whole day relaxing. Is this a good place to do so? Or is there a better point in our trails where we might enjoy a day spent stationary?

Ok, here is the thread of your trip itinerary:
http://yosemitenews.info/forum/read.php?3,32149

I put this up with you in mind:
http://yosemitenews.info/forum/read.php?3,35443

It is why I said to just go and let it play out. That crossing with the flat water there...
we were convinced we would have to swim across it... and it was flowing pretty good.
(we never did cross Falls Creek, it was v. dangerous at Tilden crossing... and I
got outvoted 1 million to 1 at Wilma crossing too) (PCTers crossed it.. ho hum)

All the other stuff that was detailed in:
http://yosemitenews.info/forum/read.php?3,30944
Will be what you get. Lots of water. And snow near Wilma.
When you get your permit they may say "o... it can't be done, the trail is under feet of water"
(it is NOW... and still will be then btw)
i.e.:
https://picasaweb.google.com/yosemite.chick.on/JackMain#5605137098693354114

All that said, in direct response to your question:
Jack Main is nice. It would be nice to hang out in.

I very highly recommend trying to get to Wilma as dayhike if you have the time
on your adventure.

If I did that loop in that amount of time Jack Main is where I'd vote for layover day... b/c
then I could go run up Mahan and Andrews Peaks, go check out Wilma, Mahan, Avonelle,
and Ardeth Lakes... stuff like that.. if I wanted to. Lots of options... (even if can't cross Falls Crk)

I wouldn't sweat it too much. If you get to Vernon and lounge there... that's ok too.

Hope this helps some
Have fun

Vernon's a nice place to lounge, except every time I've been there there's been a ton of mosquitoes...
