Just a note to everybody who flags these ads. Those who have phones that have a browser, you can bookmark the main Yosemite discussion forum and when accessing through your phone, always click on "last post" for this thread. That way, you don't need to scroll down through all the ads, but rather start from the bottom and work your way up.

Hi, I'm looking for a campsite or a campsite to share from July 1 to July 3 (checking in 7/1 and checking out 7/3) so that I can climb Half Dome on 7/2. Preferably on the valley floor (Lower Pines / North Pines / Upper Pines). Only need room for 2 people on the campsite, maybe a little room in the food locker to make sure our car doesn't get ravaged by a bear, and room to park a compact car would be nice. We won't be there most of the time--mostly just need a place to sleep.

In exchange, you get our extra Half Dome permits for 7/2.

Why not get there a little early on 7/1 - Get your Wilderness Permit - Stay in the Backpackers Campground before and after the hike?

I saw those dates, which is why I flagged them.


But, what's the point of that ad?

If you want to let loose on that scalper, then respond to them directly. I see no reason to post an ad trying to talk him down because that will have absolutely no effect on them, but on the contrary it will let unaware buyers now know that people who are trading are actually selling them.

I don't think it's intended to talk to the scalper/trader. It looks like it was just a simple copy/paste of the original ad, but I can't be sure.

My point is just that I think we get so excited about flagging, that we may be over-flagging. I take a second to read each post and decide whether to flag it or not.

No, I understand. I just think that ad, though without a reply email, can still do harm for people who now see that traders are actually scalping them in disguise.

we already know scalpers read these forums, so they'll be grasping at straws soon in an effort to get some kind of system going, which can garner any kind of response. You may not get a response, but eventually one will hit.

Eh, the scalpers are somewhat clever, I'll grant you that. But the general public isn't going to reply to random posts in the hopes that it might be a a seller disguised as a warning post. I just don't buy it. The average person out just isn't going to make that connection.
