While most attention paid to the Eastern Sierra Memorial Day weekend was on its lakes and streams, thanks to multitudes of PowerBait posses descending with rods in hand, local snowboarders and skiers headed north after hearing those four magic words: "The pass is open."

Well ... enough of it is, anyway.

Anything that is signed "The Marmots" originates as an official communication from The Sierra Nevada Marmot Nation.
I merely provide Internet access through my computer for them.

Officially, it's The Sierra Nevada Marmot Empire.
They just like to use the other designation so as not to frighten the tourists.

O.K., Empire I can live with. Empires are epic. Nations are not.

By signing off in plural it makes the appearance that "Erradication Program of Invasive Pests" (EPIC) is not working.
But EPIC is working epically. There are few Marmuts pestering the tourists heading to Half Dome anymore.
And many of the remaining Band have already started heading out of TM:
NPS got this shot of their exodus:

As well documented above by the confused state of Chick-on.
(Honestly didn't think that anything was there on which those mind-altering drugs used in the program could work.)

EPIC = Eradication Program of Invasive Chickens.
