A lightning caused fire started on 6/5/2011. One standing snag was struck, which fell to the ground, and continues to smolder. It is at the 5000’ elevation, approximately one half mile east of the Hetch Hetchy Road. Light smoke is visible. Yosemite Fire Crew 6 hiked into the fire area on 6/8/2011, and reported two logs smoldering and 6 inch flame lengths. Although the fire area is in white thorn and other brush, the fuel moistures remain high in the area, and the ground is damp. Firefighters report there is little potential for growth. The fire is near the May 21, 2009 Cottonwood Fire, also caused by lightning. “Managed Fire” signs have been posted on the Hetch Hetchy Road, as smoke is visible.
