We camped at Red's meadows this last week. One thing might be of note: The showers at Red's Meadow campground is closed. THe camp host did not seem to know much, but one other person up there thought that it might be permanent and they will make it a historical monument (huh?). They said they have to do repairs and paint, but might not bother.

Still quite a bit of patches of snow all over. Rainbow falls was raging.

Read your post on another thread when you were planning your trip. Did you go all the way down into Red's Meadows the night you got to Mammoth with no problem finding a campsite, or did you stay in Mammoth and go down the next morning?

There were some spots open at Red's Meadows the night we got up there (wed night). The other campgrounds were full, according to the girl at the booth on top, except we went into pumice flats and it looked like a couple of spots were open. It looked like Upper Soda springs was closed.

PS I did not want to set up camp in town either. I woudl be afraid my wife would argue that since we are set up already, why switch and I did not feel like camping in the town of Mammoth for my vacation. It would have been easier for where we wanted to go, but I woudl rather have my kids away from everything.

Last I read, the Minaret Falls and Upper Soda campgrounds were closed because of heavy downed tree debris. I'll bet southern part of Minaret flooded, too. I'll be down there in a few days to see for myself, will try for a campground at Pumice Flat probably
