IMO it's only fair to share since I've gleaned some ideas and knowledge I possibly would never
have known without this crazy board. ***

Ever since I went up Wildcat Pt. in 2008 and got a REALLY good look at Falls Ridge I've
had the idea to traverse the thing. Got my chance this last weekend.
Coupled with "Murphy Ridge" and May Lake Mystery Trail we ended up with a nice loop
we lots of cross country and lots of solitude.
Falls Ridge is anything but an easy ridge and was only able to complete the western half.
(we rarely go with a fixed plan anyway so that's always OK)

Here's a set of photos. Hopefully it does the place justice.

For those who don't look at sets here's two:
Falls Ridge Eastern Portion:

Old Dude Tree:

Note to basilbop: Did not explore Cathedral Creek. Wanted to stay high and camp on
ridges and away from water as much as possible. Plan on going back and doing as
much as can of eastern half and exploring the creek some... eventually completing the
entire ridge and hiking the entire creek.

Thanks for sharing the photographs. They're wonderful.

I have a question regarding this one:

On top of which dome (or peak) was this shot of you and Chick-a (and of LeConte Falls and Glen Aulin) taken?

A wee bit east of 8615:

Getting up to this pt. requires the most bushwhacking on the western portion... or some serious route picking with debatable class 3 stuff
(I just blasted thru the shrub on the way down) (it's 99% not Manz smiling smiley )

Added a few pictures to the set:

Picture looking west from 8615 from near Chick-on Little Dome (neat little dome with great view of LeConte):

On one of 3 trips I've done to the Wildcat Point area, we explored all along the brink of that cliff north of Wildcat Point frame left. Those areas look down on the LeConte and Waterfall Falls areas. Have old 35mm KR64 pics of all that. The cliff areas looking down into the canyon north of Wildcat Point are not easily accessed because the granite steepens as it nears the brink areas.

She looked like that when I met her.... Pleasantly plump.

(was gonna mention something about a Twinkie... but this is a family oriented site, no?)

As always, thanks for sharing this trip! I especially like the views of the upper part of the GCT from Falls Ridge.

Did two trips into that area in 80s by going down Cathedral Creek. But did not explore out to north end of Falls Ridge. Very pristine zone including large areas without any old firerings. During big water year, we went down to the west side of the river and camped at areas between California and Waterwheel falls. Not a place for those that navigate by sight alone as cliffs all over landscape. The route down requires careful topo work to avoid steep slabs and cliffs. As an old photographer, I've been hunting spectacular trees for decades. This whole zone on either side of the canyon is one of the best places anywhere to find spectacular Sierra junipers. Many however are difficult to approach given the steepness of canyon walls.
