Young lakes

Went to Young Lakes from Toulumne Meadows this weekend and really enjoyed the scenery. Blue skies and perfect weather. The blood suckers were out, and a head net was very useful.

Upper young lake.

Snow field spilling into upper lake.

Looking back towards the lower two lakes

Same shot at sunset.

Very nice! In comparison, here are some shots from 8/14/09:

Dry as a bone!

Apart from the skeeters, I'm really enjoying the late-season snowfields.

The next time I hike out there, I'll probably bring a book to read while lounging around the white sand beach at the lower lake and maybe have lunch on the island you can walk out to on the upper lake.

Did you climb up to Conness from there? That's a great hike!

Balza, Originally I hoped to climb Mt Conness, but when I started to feel the altitude at 10200 and developed quarter sized blisters, I figured 12600 Mt conness would be too much. My dad (he's 66) and I did Clouds Rest the previous day and were both pretty spent.

QITNL Here's some more shots from Young Lake if you're interested. I really enjoyed that spot, and it wasn't too crowded considering the throngs of people in the park.

I have - yes - not to hijack Carl's thread. A very nice hike, I agree. Ragged Peak is a real fun scramble, too.

His shots just reminded me how much fun it would be to break up the talus with a little hiking on snow. Looks like I might have missed that opportunity for this year, but you never know.

PS - Carl, if you got more shots, post or send a link when you can pull them off your camera. Thanks again.
