anyone in Tuolumne lately?
August 11, 2011 10:00AM
Hi, I will be up in Tuolumne Meadows on Sunday and wondering what current weather is like - day/night temps, any thunderstorm activity? Bear activity in and around campground? Mosquitoes? Have wildflowers hit their peak yet? We are also heading down to a cabin somewhere near Wawona area later in the week to meet family members. How bad has smoke from the fire been in that area?

For weather: http://www.wunderground.com/login.asp
Thunderstorms can come on any day but usually in the afternoon.
There could well be bear activity at any campground in the park.
There are mosquitoes at Tuolumne Meadows.
Wildflowers are out but hard to say if they are at their peak. It's been a very late year.
The smoke drift from the fire near Chinquapin could get to Wawona depending on the wind.

Just back from four days out of TM (I will post a TR later) but all three rangers we met said it was the second worst season in history for SKeeters.

And I will say that they were horrible at Nelson Lake and at Bernice Lake....and much worse than that at Reymann Lake.

I don't know if I would phrase it that way. I would think it's probably the second BEST year for the mosquitos (but the second WORST year for people trying to avoid them.) wink

Lots of weather sites list conditions for Yosemite Valley and generalize for "Yosemite" -- not very helpful. When we were there several weeks ago, TM was getting afternoon thunderstorms and the Valley was dry and in the 80's.

Here's a link for Tioga, which might be more relevant for the high country: http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?site=rev&smap=1&textField1=37.939583333333&textField2=-119.24375
