Watkins Scenery

Stop at 0:25. Below Clouds Rest summit ridge: doesn't that section of the wall look like Dr. Zaius (Planet of the Apes)?

Zaius Wall?

What about @ 0:19? Not enough of a beak I guess, but paint that section pink and it nearly becomes that unusual creature. Perhaps when in a state of bliss.

At 00:12, it looks like a stone-faced cougar is taking a sip of water from the Pywiack Cascades!

We actually started off @ Olmsted Pt. Didn't go down that staircase, but instead headed west from the parking lot. Lost the trail/ducks after a short while, so sort of manufactured our own way. Headed south to Hidden Lake, then bushwhacked WSW down to eventually find the trail again. You have to go a bit off trail to get to Watkins.

They're actually on the dome east of Watkins. I guess wherever called this the NE Ridge of Watkins.
You can see Watkins at the end of the vid.

To "fully" enjoy either "dome" you need to get off the trail quite a bit.

Well, off the trail maybe, but don't try to scare people. It's just open meadow and granite. Nothing at all steep. The official trail from Olmstead Point crosses the saddle just behind Mt. Watkins. The cross country ski trail from the quarry comes down to the same saddle. From that saddle, you just walk up the hill to Watkins summit.

If you've ever taken the trail past the top of El Capitan, and wandered on the spur trail towards the edge of the face...it's like that. Except a bit uphill.

I wasn't trying to scare anyone. Was I?

It's simple xcountry. 1.5 miles on Watkins proper to the edge. (250 ft. up, nearly 1K ft. down)
East Dome is about 1 mile to the edge.

Quarry to Watkins is a true gem. Didn't even know about the ski markers till took the
wifey thataway in 2008.

The curved tree up there is supa kewl:

I talked to an employee that was going to do it the 2nd week in August, he said that the water was still very high. When I asked if they planned on rappeling or down climbing he said they were going to "jump".

Having just been there... my response would now be:
"uh sure..." followed by a laugh and then just walk away
