Sounds like they should close Tioga too.

If so, hopefully it's just temporary until the official shutdown date of Oct 15th.

Oct 15th isn't the official shutdown date as far I know. It's just the date when they will no longer permit overnight parking on Tioga Road (and Glacier Point Road). The road could still be open for travel and day-use parking after that date barring any major storms coming through.

As already stated, there is no official "shut down" date. The pass closes when there is enough snow to not melt in a few days. I was talking about closing the pass in advance of the storm so that no one gets caught up there. I'm assuming that's what they're doing with the other passes.

I'll be going up there tomorrow. I'll report back later.

That's what I assumed as well. And sometime earlier we had a discussion that included the experience of being caught on Sonora with substantial snow on the road from poorly forecasted snow...I have AWD w/ good tires (Goodyear Triple-Treads w/ reasonably deep tread) and the experience is decidedly unpleasant. Still, pre-emptive closing, at least before the not-going-to-plow-date (10/15) seems odd.
