...Very early winter storm to affect the southern sierra nevada
Late tuesday night through wednesday night...

.A strong storm dropping out of the gulf of alaska will bring
Unseasonably cold weather to the central california interior
Wednesday and thursday. Snow accumulations could be as high as 18
Inches over the high country...With 6 to 12 inches down to the
7000 foot level. The storm is forecast to move east of the region
Late wednesday night...However snow showers could linger into
Thursday.

The national weather service in hanford has issued a winter storm
Warning above 7000 feet for heavy snow and strong winds...Which
Is in effect from 3 am wednesday to 5 am pdt thursday for the
Southern sierra nevada from yosemite to kings canyon. The winter
Storm watch is no longer in effect.

* snow accumulations: 6 to 12 inches above 7000 feet...And 12 to
18 inches in the high country.

* snow level: above 8000 feet early wednesday lowering to 5500 to
6000 feet during the day wednesday.

* timing: snow will begin falling early wednesday morning and
Continue through wednesday night. The heaviest snow will fall
During the day wednesday.

* locations include: huntington lake...Tuolumne meadows...Tioga
Pass...Florence lake...Edison lake.

* winds: west winds over the high country will gust to 50 mph and
Cause considerable blowing and drifting.

* impacts: this is a dangerous early season storm. Heavy snow
Accumulations may cause mountain roads to become blocked.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A winter storm warning means significant amounts of snow...
Sleet...And ice are expected or occurring. Strong winds are also
Possible. This will make travel very hazardous or impossible

Do not be caught in the high country and become stranded. Head for
Lower elevations as soon as possible.

...Strong winter-like storm to impact the area late tonight and

A strong storm system coming from the gulf of alaska will move
Into the region late tonight bringing a significant rain event and
Much cooler temperatures to the area. Rain could be heavy at
Times from fresno county and northward...Especially during the day
On wednesday...An embedded thunderstorm cannot be ruled out. Local
Street flooding is possible on wednesday as rainfall amounts could
Reach from around one half inch to one inch in the san joaquin
Valley and nearby foothills and up to one and a half inches in the
Sierra nevada below 7000 feet. By wednesday evening...Rain is
Expected to taper to light showers. On thursday...Lingering light
Showers are possible...However temperatures will remain well below
Average for early october. Snowfall is expected to remain above
The 6000 foot elevation level.
