Nice... I'm jealous :-( BTW, is the dry reservoir in the Picasa pix "Lake" Eleanor?

Yes, the first two pictures are Lake Eleanor.
The "real" Lake Eleanor is still pretty big. Take a look at an old map before
they put the damn in and you'll see. The dams out there (another example
is Florence) like this... they drain in winter to avoid busting it... I'd seen
it from Laurel area a couple of times... never walked on the bed.
Had been wanting to do that... a and b aligned this time... so did...
Maybe I'll put a route map up... went hunting Boundary markers too.

Don't be jealous... I had to go to bed at 4:30pm.

They do the same thing at Waugh Lake, but it is so that Gem Lake has more hydraulic head and thus generates more power. I suspect this is another reason Eleanor is drained (or pumped, depending on water levels) into Cherry.

I am still jealous.

Could be. You're right about pumping into Cherry from Eleanor.

I put some more pix up here along with the route I took:

Abuse the route at your own risk. I have plans to follow the border all the way to Bond now ...
and try to find the markers I'm missing... following the border was pretty fun and not too
difficult imo... I see another nice way into Kibbie too... which I'll also prob. do someday ...

Enjoy

This is a very nice sunrise picture, thanks.

I remember a long time ago spending the night at Rainier's Camp Muir. Woke up to the most beautiful red sunrise...and got down the mountain as fast as I could. It started dumping just before I got back to Paradise.
