Never noticed this until last weekend. You can actually see Richardson Peak from
the Vista "Rim of the World" located just west of where 120 crosses The South Fork
of the Tuolumne / Rainbow Pool / Cherry Lake Road.

An interesting thing about Richardson are the summit blocks:

A few others:
Summit blocks are visible in this one from just N of Nance Peak:

View of the Crest west of Richardson from Lake 8542

And one from the ridge N of Eleanor:

I find this stuff fascinating... I hope you enjoy.

Does the bird live in Foresta?

Sorry. That's not the intention whatsoever. It's more of 'check this out next time you go'.
And, no, don't live in Foresta... if did...then I'd be even more annoying...

Once you recognize a feature like this... you start to see it from many locations
you previously may have not noticed.
(ok, this is definitely the case for me)

Saw Richardson from these locations the past weekend+:
- Cherry Lake Road (coming from 120 just before head down to early intake/Tuolumne River crossing)
- Kibbie Lake (just head up the granite to the NW and you'll see it)
- Lake Eleanor (head over the dam and there it is)

If there is interest... I can show some pix.

There's always interest in more pictures here...

You should hit the reply button...

But here you go:

From Cherry Lake Road just before heading down to Early Intake:
(Joes Point in foreground, behind that the granite wall/dome is the wall just west of Edith Lake)

From a road off of Cherry Lake Road... right where the Cherry Power Tunnel Pipe comes out and heads down to Holm Powerhouse:
(the dam gets all the "glory" but the tunnels and pipe system of HH are incredible feats)

From Eleanor - south of dam, near Cabins:

From Kibbie Basin:

And one more from the ridge just south of it (near 9423):
(way back there... you can also make out the three chimneys)

I do have picts taken from the north... but most of this stuff are not difficult hikes. Stuff just about anyone can get to easily or see right from a car.

Hah, somehow I doubt the Park Service would like me trying to see that view from the Kibbie Basin in my truck...

As always, great pictures and thanks for giving me some terrain to dream about at work tonight.

On a sidenote, that pic of Kibbie is very close to where I saw two mountain lions last year in early June when it was still covered in snow.

Very cool pics - Thanks for sharing!

Spent the 26th and 27th in the park. Hiked to Elizabeth Lake on the 26th. The snow at the lake was just enough to be frustrating (for me & hubby at least). Definitely wasn't enough for snowshoes, but just enough to be shin deep and not able to support any kind of weight. Enjoyed being at frozen Tenaya and watching a great hockey game! Made me miss my native state and my Detroit Red Wings!

On the 27th, we hiked to Clark Point, down to Vernal Falls, and back via the Mist Trail. There were more people than I expected to be at the top of Vernal Falls, but it was beautiful and there wasn't a drop of snow anywhere that day (besides ice on the falls). A coyote said "Hi" to us on the John Muir Trail, other than that it was a pretty uneventful and very enjoyable. I'll try to post some pics once I get them uploaded.

I am amazed at how many people hike the Mist without decent footwear and water. Maybe we're just overpreparers, but there must be guardian angels working overtime to protect everyone on this trail!

Happy New Year All!

Wuz looking at High Sierra Topix when I was bored at work yesterday and David S.
mentioned the lake in the photo above...

Wuz wondering if any of u turkeys out there stopped at the "Rim of the World" and
see what I'm a squawking about...

????

Another place you can actually see Richardson from is on your way in to Hetch Hetchy...
When you see the lake and the mountains in the back... there it is ...
although your eyes will fixate on Wapama Falls and Mahan Peak way above it...

Have fun

(sure won't now though) (tank goodness)
