Re: Sierra TV series 1974

I remember seeing the Sierra TV series when I was a little kid. Don't remember Johnny and Roy from the Emergency series being in it. I like the helicopter shot of Le Conte Falls.

Wow. I remember Gage & DeSoto and Emergency, but not a program called Sierra. Did you notice backdrop of the woman cooking the roast that eventually gets eayen by the bear? In the estblishing shot to the scence there is a tent I guess to imply she is camping. It looks as though she is in the valley , but up around the west end. Can anybody tell where the shot takes place in the valley and whether or not there were campsites there in the mid '70's?

In the episode, the rangers respond to the emergency call at "Camp 9". According to info I found on the Internet,
Camp 9 was "Organization Camp. Former Valley Group Camp east of the backpacker's campground next to and
including Royal Arch Meadow; now naturalized".

They took the shot of the lady having her roast stolen by the bear
just west of Leidig Meadow... west of the Merced...
(the shot at 4:15 of the video)
This isn't anywhere near the current day backpackers campground.
I've never even driven in there... but I guess there still is a group
campground at "Sentinel Beach" and there def. used to be a road
right to where they shot that schtuff. (that I base on the 1970 Yose Valley map).
Anyway, it's definitely Leidig Meadow in the foreground.

OK, thanks for the clarification on the location. I've seen campers cook all sorts of things
over the years, but I never saw someone boil a beef roast the size of a basketball on top
of a camp stove.
Must be a very localized thing () , perhaps favored only by campers in the immediate
Leidig Meadow area...

The river/picnic/bear scene looks like the old Rocky Point Beach picnic area. It was a favorite picnic area for our family in the 1950’s. There was a turnoff just before you come to the (non) Swinging Bridge to the left that went to Yellow Pine & Rocky Point Beaches. Rocky Point Beach was out where the Merced makes a 90° left turn just across from the Rocky Point rockfall area. I think it’s called Sentinel Beach now.
Camp 9 was the old organization camp across Tenaya Creek from the stables at Camp 12 (North Pines?). We used to drive through Camp 9 a couple times every visit to the Valley to see Boy Scout leaders who had never camped trying to keep track of young scouts who had never camped. They all usually had a great time

Sierra was brought to you by MCA the parent company of Curry Co. I was working in the valley when series was being shot.It brought all the worst of L.A. and Hollywood right smack dab to the valley.As to where the scene was shot,it good be anywhere they wanted,the normal rules seemed to be ignored by the production crew.All said they proved to be a bunch of pukes.

Oh, wow -- I was obsessed with the show Emergency! when I was a kid (totally in love with "Johnny" I loved it when the Universal Studios characters would cross over into the other series. We watched Sierra, but as a pushishment for terrorizing the mean girl across the street, I was banished to my room when the ultimate episode came on (Johnny & Roy go to the park) I ended up listening to it through the heater vent! (Hey, I just noticed that the rest of the episode is listed at the end of the clip!)
