Hey, is there anything really worth seeing in that big expanse....

between 120 and Yosemite Falls? No, I don't mean North Dome/Basket Dome, since the g/f and I plan to camp up there this spring, but rather in that big area between that and, say, Devil's Dancefloor.

On maps, I've seen Ribbon Meadows mentioned, and maybe one other, like Fireplace Bluffs, but that's it.

Since we're going to see North Dome, and will have plenty of time, is there anything worth seeing in that area, in general?

Do you mean beyond the north rim?

Because on the north rim itself, there's plenty to see like Yosemite Point, the top of Yosemite Falls, the summit of Eagle Peak, etc.

Yes, I mean 'beyond' the north rim.

The hike along Yosemite Creek from 120 down to Yosemite Falls is beautiful. There are a couple of great swimming holes and granite water slides as well. With the late snow melt last year there were still a lot of wildflowers in the meadows out there too.

Much like the May Lake area... there is absolutely nothing worthwhile...

Nice photo. From Boundary Peak?

It's from just a bit NE of x8971. (about 1.5 miles from Boundary Hill)

And for those that want more info... this is El Cap Ridge... something wherever was nice enough
to share with everyone. And I thank him. wink
It kicks chick-on butt (as in it is muy muy bueno)

Here's a few more pix:

There's all kinds of different rock formations to amuse you.... a few little ponds to explore... knobs to climb... and open hiking with
great views. But other than that it sucks.

Here's something I want to explore that didn't last time:

There's a lot more than what is shown here... and there's a lot more than just this ridge. I've been looking at this area
for a bit now and planning a few different treks. Some I've mentioned here.

Anyway, thanks for everything

Which is why, yet again, I freaking LOVE THIS SITE.

Thanks, that's exactly what I needed to see.

Was hesitant to put anything up....

As Sandpiper said Yosemite Creek trail is really really nice too.

I'll throw 2 more at you. And this is really close to 120... an excellent
example of exfoliation and cliffs similar to Buena Vista Crest / Horse Ridge:

JUST to the left ... out of the fuax toe is Siesta Lake
and bring your binocs... b/c you can see clear to The Three Chimneys and a huge portion of the park N of 120
including the Sawtooths and this:

That's Tower and Hawksbeak... and in the middle Rancheria Mountain

Have fun exploring

From a map, it's nearly a straight line from White Wolf to El Capitan. Looks doable. who wants to try? smiling smiley

That's been dubbed "El Cap Ridge" by wherever... and you can find more info about it above including
the link to his original post.

I should mention that just about any ridge you can go hike on will be superior to where they stuck a trail.
A number have been shown over the years in this forum such as this one, Falls, Kuna, Illilouette, Morrison,
Crescent, Buena Vista, Horse, etc. etc. If you like xcountry you should find those and give them a go.

Maybe I'm not much help b/c I find all the trails to have some redeeming quality
and something worth seeing on. Probably few take the trail from 120 to
Tamarack Creek Campground (I've only done it once and that was when Tioga
was closed and I was doing a loop thru Aspen). Anyway, I really enjoyed
that trail too. Yes, there's a burn through there now but that may actually
make it even more interesting.
And also in that area is the crossing of Cascade which is really nice... and
a bit up the trail in that area toward BOFR is the crossing of Coyote
which also has a nice small waterfall.
