Do they close the ski area with a mountain full of snow just because of staffing? Lack of customers?

They close it normally at the beginning of April every year to give DNC about two weeks to shutdown everything at the Badger Pass Ski Area before the Park Service starts plowing Glacier Point Road in mid-April to have it opened up by late May (if not earlier).

This weekend is the last weekend at Badger. Saturday is the annual Spring Fest with lots of fun things going on. Sunday is the last day of skiing.

Some of the staff is hired just for the ski season and year round employees go to other positions in the park. When we were up there in December and Badger was not opened, the ski instructor that my son likes was working as a waiter at the Wawona Hotel Dining Room. Last year I asked if they were going to stay open later because of all of the snow and was told that there are some protected birds that nest in that area in the spring and they have to close down so the birds are not disturbed.

As noted, they also have to close things down so the spring plowing can start.
