El Cap hike suggestions
May 04, 2012 06:24PM
Planning a hike this summer, possibly going from the trail head on Big Oak Flat Road across the top of El Cap and down Yosemite falls. I want to get out to the top of ribbon falls and possibly stay along the edge over to Yosemite Falls. Anyone have any suggestions on alternate starts from valley, possibly the old road. Also considering coming down Indian Canyon depending mileage though ive heard coming down is a bad idea if you haven't gone up it before. Vaguely remember hearing of a climbers decent trail just east of EL cap as well.

If you haven't seen these you may want to look around some:
(note : my "trip report" to the top of Ribbon Fall is the first one... those who know
know I'm nuts already so I don't always necessarily post a comprehensive trip report)

IMO I wouldn't recommend going down Indian Canyon unless you were planning to
go visit North Dome and/or Basket and/or Indian Arch... and then you might
just as well go down Basket Gully and find my camera...

It was me that mentioned going down Indian... I just highly doubt you will be
able to find the trail without poking around a lot and it's super steep in many
places...

The "El Cap Loop" ... up Yose Falls ... down Old Big Oak Flat Rd to the valley...
that can be done in 2 days ...

The decent from El Cap requires a rap. I know that for sure.

Maybe others can chime in.

Once the road opens the hike from Tamarack Flat CG
to top of Ribbon greatly simplifies. Consider going that way to have more time
to play around. Once summer is in full swing the OBOFR TRAIL (from The NEW
BOFR) may not be so wonderful... hike a bunch o miles.. .hit Cascade Creek
and 40 people are there with their dogs who hike 1 mile down from Tam Crk GG.

Time to head get ready to go to my fav-o-rite place. Check the links above... ttyl
