Wilderness will be removing two of the current four bear lockers at the Snow Creek Cabin. Two bear lockers will remain at the cabin for use as storage for winter ski caches. As a reminder, when storing food caches please:
  • Label & date all food caches. Caches not labeled or dated will be removed.
  • Food caches must be removed within one month of Tioga Road opening in the spring. Any food caches not removed will be destroyed.
  • Space is limited and communal. Be respectful of other visitors and store only essential food items.
  • Store food caches in rodent proof containers, such as plastic Tupperware style containers.

Do they put them back in the spring or is this a permanent removal? If temporary, why don't they just leave them there?

It makes no sense to remove them and put them back.
It does make sense to enforce people removing their items in the summer months.
I know for a fact that people were simply leaving them in there year
round and just crossing off last years date and changing it to this year.
Why they are getting rid of 1/2 the capacity is beyond me.
I thought they should be adding bear lockers... not removing them.
So, no I do not think they will be replacing them.

On a related note... on Le Bas-cat Dome "Gully" hike I found some bozos
5 gallon pail o crap. People are just lazy sometimes.
