The Upper Merced River and Dr. Adam Burns invite the community to: Under the Surface - an Intimate Encounter with the Macroinvertebrates of the Merced River on October 20 from 9:30 to noon at the Merced River Center at Briceburg. In this hands-on class, Dr. Burns will share with humor and science how different types of macroinvertebrates thrive under diverse conditions, how they vary in their sensitivity to water pollution, and what their presence or absence tells us about stream conditions and water quality.

A few years ago while I was in the valley for fall photography, right there down in the water next to shore at Valley View was surprised to see a crawdad. Of course there are myriad down in the valley along streams but twas a bit surprising to see one up at 4k.

The entire valley is about 4,000 feet. Your report confuses me.

... and 4k is still not 4,000 feet....

Last summer a relative from Mariposa joined the family at the Devils Postpile (7600') and she brought a crawdad trap with her. She was sure she would catch one and we all kinda laughed at her. She didn't catch any crawdads but she did catch a small trout!

Tide? Lack of spell check places ocean at 4K (approximately).

Purty shure me spellt Tide rightly.

My favorite macroinvertebrates are dragonflies and damselflies nymphs, killing machines that eat the marcroinvertebrate I dislike the most both while in the water and later after hatching.

Haven't taken the time to pursue photographing them lately.
But put a number of them up that have taken in Yosemite here
