Did a lovely 4 day trip with the wifie. Thanks to this forum it dawned (not the
soap kind) on mwa that if we take Z bus up to Badger Pass we can hike
"down" to Happy Isles. Note to peeps wanting to put stuff in the bus
compartment... if you got more than you... then the other persons should
jump on the bus and snag some seats. We nearly missed the bus
after having been the second personages waiting at the stop. (I love people)
Anywho, hasn't snow a poo for a month now... so we ended up walking
GP road ... and then finally got to put snowshoes on on traverse of Illilouette Ridge.
Luckily few go that-a-way and we had the place to ourselves. Spent the night
up there:

Next day we go to Glacier Pt. the fun way:

And then down Panorama to Panny Pt. for lunch:
Much thanks to plawrence for the uSoft ICE link... LOVING this software!
Taking a bunch of photos and using this software is THE way to go
if you Panorama photos... blows away in-camera pannies.

And then ziggy over to near Starr King for the night:

Did I mention it was supa warm and gorgeous? Slept under the stars all 3 nights.
Out in the open (well.. in a sleeping bag). Only had to throw something over me on Tuesday morning
when it started to snow.

Third day we went up to Lost Valley and back... sleeping in LYV.
Well... after we went up "Panorama Mountain/Ridge":

Helmet Dome/Little Grizzly Falls/Bunnell Pt.:

The wife said she hoped it started to snow so she we could walk out in
falling snow... she got her wish:

Hope you enjoy. We did.

O... btw.. when got permit the ranger again told us to dig down thru the snow into the ground to go #2.
it was so warm with lots of bare soil... no need... (and I partook of the Nevada Falls outhouse anyway) smiling smiley

Have fun

Man, that's awesome! I need to get in better shape so I can do that kind of stuff. Not sure the wife would go for camping in the snow though...... we spent the weekend 'backpacking' at Pt Reyes and she was bundled up like crazy. Thanks so much for sharing not only this adventure, but all the other stuff you post.

Glad that you enjoy using the Microsoft panorama software. It's a pretty cool app.

And thanks for the photos too. By any chance, did you upload any of your panoramic photos to Microsoft's Photosynth website?

And if so, any public links?

It's really neat... and incredibly easy. Need to do a better job of capturing more now.
Thanks.

Haven't put anything up publicly yet. Maybe next week... the weekend is nearly here already.

A little comparison shopping some may find interesting:

Nevada Footy Bridge:

Vernal Falls Overlook:

One very amusing little tidbit... on the 27th we busted our booties to get up to Nevada Falls and such...
and after the Silver Apron Bridge... after the wifie ate about a 10 pound snow load falling off of a oak
that was blocking the trail ... purty much I said... ok, we can just go up here and zig over to
Casa Nevada area and back on the "trail"... well... nearly 2 months later... the actual trail was free and
clear of any snow... and I looked where we went in December... and there's a zillion footprints in
the snow heading way off the trail... got a kick out of that... Lemmings... gotta love em

You're right, I'm kicking myself.

I was thinking it was higher and more to the north, as if on the north side of the river and upstream from the bridge, i.e. no where a trail.

Glad your enjoying using the software.

It's very neat how much detail you can in in your panoramas. Those three that you posted are wonderful.

You probably hadn't thought about it until now, but on your next trip, you might want to see if you can take enough photos to create what some call 720º panoramas: a complete circle of of photos (both horizontally and vertically) like my photo of Horsetail Fall, El Capitan and Sentinel Rock: Photosynth.Net: 720º Panorama of El Capitan, Horsetail Fall & Sentinel Rock

(My photosynths have only a fraction of the incredible details of yours, since I'm just using my iPhone to take the photos. It's pretty awesome to see all the details of your panos through Photosynth.)

Of course I have thought of it... you showed me it in the first one you posted silly!
(thx again btw!)
(this is the same as those gigapixel thingies... only with a handheld... soooo coool!)
The issue has been the low angle of the sun ... so I skipped that section of the sky...
except for on the "Ring around the Watkins Tree" which I didn't expect to turn out.
Looked at a few on that site... and really liked how you got the entire sky...
Don't worry... I will do some more. Now really want to get back up Fairview to make one of these.
And Falls Ridge.. and... o boy...
