California Black Oak Restoration Project to Begin in Yosemite Valley

This project, funded by Yosemite Conservancy, seeks to investigate the reasons why black oaks are not recruiting new young trees into the groves, and in the process, begin to restore the groves. Work will involve planting and protecting black oak seedlings from both deer and rodents in several groves in Yosemite Valley. This will include the housing area of Yosemite Village. For Village residents, you may see at most one five foot tall protective cage somewhere in your yard. Seedlings and protective cages will not be placed immediately adjacent to buildings or in high use areas. The project will begin as soon as March 28 and restoration and volunteer crews will be on site for up to two weeks. If residents have any questions, they can contact Bill Kuhn ([email protected]).
