SACRAMENTO -- State lawmakers are supporting a proposal to expand Yosemite National Park by 1,600 acres, restoring land stripped of its protection by Congress in 1906. The state Senate approved a resolution this week that asks the federal government to approve the expansion.

This article appears to be in reference to a parcel that is immediately south of Yosemite West:

If all property is transferred to the park it will surround Yosemite West and also will cut the top section of Yosemite West ( roads called Henness Circle, Azalea and Dogwood- which have the condos, the B & B's and private houses) off from the lower section of Yosemite West so it is not just the land immediately south of Yosemite West.

Just to play devils advocate, I wonder who would profit from a Yosemite West expansion. Are there inholdings and property owners who would benefit here? The news story paints the motives as 100% altruistic, which makes me suspicious. :

The bill is NOT to expand Yosemite West but to transfer back to the park, land that was Yosemite NP park land but was removed from the park in 1906. The partnership of private owners mentioned in the article and Mariposa County might/will benefit for reasons that are too extensive to go into on the forum but the other property owners will not unless they want to sell their properties and get market value.
