John Muir Trail Ice Cut Open

The Mist trail and the upper section of the John Muir Trail from Clark Point to the top of Nevada Falls ("the ice cut" have been opened for the season starting today (April 23rd). As always, travel with care as the trails are wet and may be slippery. The 4 mile trail remains closed at the gate at Union Point.

Wouldn't that be the gate BELOW Union Point. Don't recall any gate at the Union Point spur trail junction.

Ironically, if that's the gate I'm thinking of (down the trail from Union Point), that's basically where the old Four Mile Trail diverges up through manzanita hell towards Agassiz Column and to Union Point, itself.

yes - about a mile below. The trail is clear well past Union Point and then becomes snow covered near the top in sketchy traverse area. Some people
were hiking through that area but I would not recommend it for another couple of weeks.
