Forbidden (37 45.485 x -119 37.116; 7,400โ€ el., Mariposa C0.): This lightning caused fire was called in by employees and visitors observing smoke on May 21. The fire is west of the Eagle Peak Meadow and Creek, a tributary of Yosemite Creek, and north of Eagle Peak, on the north rim of Yosemite Valley. Firefighters have hiked into the fire area to scout and determine the fire potential growth and spread direction, measure fuel moisture samples, and monitor the fire behavior. The fire is .6 of an acre smoldering through compact short needle red fir duff, and with areas of 6-12 inch flame length. A single tree was struck by lightning. Smoke is visible from various locations in the park from Tioga Rd (Hwy 120), and from Sentinel Dome and Glacier Point. The fire will continue to be monitored. The fire was named for Forbidden Wall along the Yosemite Falls trail.

Rainbow View (37 43.594 x 119 40.495; 6000โ€™el., Mariposa Co.): This lightning caused fire began on the afternoon of May 10, during a thunderstorm near Yosemite Valley. This fire is out.
