The lightning caused Aspen Fire was discovered on July 23, 2013. The fire is located on the Sierra National Forest in Fresno County. It is between Mammoth Pool reservoir and Huntington Lake. It is south of Yosemite National Park. Smoke is visible from a wide area from the fire, including Yosemite National Park. The South Central Sierra Interagency Incident Management Team assumed command of the Aspen fire on Wednesday July 24. Fire crews are constructing hand-lines and aircraft are being used to put this fire out. Heavy smoke and steep terrain makes access to the fire difficult. Approximately 700 firefighters have been committed to the fire. Smoke from the fire continues to impact air quality in many communities. The "incidweb" link gets me a "server not found" message. Try this one: http://www.inciweb.org/incident/article/3552/19410/

Anyone have a smoke report from Tuolumne Meadows, Tioga Entrance station, or Saddlebag Lake areas? We'd like to make a trip up there on Monday but if it's smokey like Yosemite Valley then it's probably not worth it.

There is supposed to be a change in the weather patterns this weekend. What it looks like today will be completely different come Monday. It's supposed to blow all the smoke out, but the fire is still going and making more. There is gonig to be some monsoonal moisture coming in bringing heavy rains to some areas. That might help suppress the fire. You'll just have to wait until Monday to find out.

Tuolumne must must be clear.... all the smoke from the fire was down at the Mariposa level. For awhile the visibility was down to a mile or so by smoke that's from a fire that's over 30 miles away.

Maybe not. I'm seeing smoking on the Mono Lake cam.

It's putting out a lot of smoke. The weather patterns keep shifting. It seems everyone is getting their share of smoke from this now 9000 acre fire.
