Tuesday, September 10, Yosemite Valley East Auditorium, noon - 1 pm
Dr. Susan Mazer, Field Director of the California Phenology Project and Professor of Plant Ecology & Evolution, University of California, Santa Barbara, will present “The Fingerprint of Climate Change: The California Phenology Project at Yosemite.”
Phenology is the study of the timing of seasonal plant and animal life cycle events. The California Phenology Project seeks to track the effects of climate change on the seasonal behavior of our flora and fauna. Since 2011, citizen scientists, educators, and national park staff have contributed over 420,000 observations to the California Phenology Project. Hear what has been learned so far from this ambitious project and how Yosemite will be contributing to this effort.
