Yes, I agree; the decor is MUCH better than the food.

There are no beds located inside the Ahwahnee's Dining Room.

(Unless you were referring to a bed of lettuce. In that case: ewwwww!)

I thought I was the only one that had a mummified rat under a bed at the Ahwahnee

Maybe the two of you stayed in the same room/cottage at the Ahwahnee.

(BTW, I found a dead rat once under my bed inside one of Yosemite Lodge's cabins (that were removed after the 1997 flood).

Give. It. A. Rest! Pounding head on desk

The body betrays and the weather conspires, hopefully, not on the same day.

That's the one I was referring to.

I wonder what they would have thought if I had carried trap with the dried up rodent into the lobby and put it on the front desk.

That's exactly what you should have done.

That was just one thing in a myriad of other things that went wrong on that stay there so they got a very long letter from me. Some of them were health code violations and I should have reported them to the county/state. Never have and never will stay there again.

I hope they didn't charge you extra for your "wildlife experience."

The wife and I stayed at Curry Village in the late 80's in a cabin with a bath, 17a. As we were relaxing in the cabin after eating at the Curry Pizza porch we noticed a juvenile mouse run across the floor and under one of the beds. Then we saw its mom peeking though a mouse hole in the baseboard calling the little critter back. It didn't come back so mama came running after it. This went on back and forth for awhile and we continued to play our scrabble game on one of the beds as we thought it would be better than continuing to play at the table and have one of the mice run up one of our legs. Finally after watching this circus for awhile I went to the front desk and asked for a couple of mouse traps. I was informed that that would be against Park rules and we were not allowed to kill any animals in the Park. ( I wonder if we would have been given a different answer if this occurrence had happened after the Hantivirus disaster last year in Curry Village?). To make a long story short after we were sure both mice had returned to their den behind the baseboard we plugged the hole with socks and were actually able to sleep that night. When we camp in Yosemite now we often take an evening walk though Curry and point to our little 17a cabin which we now fondly remember as the "Mouse Hilton."

I've heard about Erna's place for years now, and just haven't had the time to check it out.

This Winter, perhaps.
