I believe the hotels inside Yosemite are not privately owned. The Park owns them and DNC runs them.

And, anyone needing a campsite in the Mariposa area, don't forget the Mariposa Fair Grounds. Not the prettiest place, but the price is right.

My assumption has been that the difference between NPS and USFS status here is based in part on the NPS being responsible for all law enforcement in most national parks (including Yosemite). CHP has a presence in Death Valley, doesn't it?
