Ann Lory was last seen at her residence in Foresta, California, on November 22, 2013. It is believed that Lory went for a walk in the area of Old Coulterville Road and Big Oak Flat Road. Lory is a 60-year-old white female with grey hair. She is 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighs approximately 110 pounds. A description of her clothing or equipment is unknown.

Yosemite National Park Rangers are searching for Ann Lory, 60, a resident of Foresta, who has been missing since Saturday morning, November 23, 2013. Foresta is a small community located along the western portion of the park boundary and can only be accessed through the park via Highway 120 (Big Oak Flat Road).

Lory reportedly left her residence early Saturday morning, November 23, to hike along the Old Coulterville Road and the Old Big Oak Flat Road in Yosemite National Park. Lory is 5’ 6” tall, 110 pounds, and has grey hair and hazel eyes. The type of clothing and gear she had with her is unknown.

Yosemite Park Rangers are currently conducting the search in and around the Foresta area. Approximately 70 people are involved in the search effort and the park is utilizing dog teams to assist in locating Lory.

The park is receiving assistance from the Madera, Fresno, Tuolumne, Kern, Merced, and Mariposa Counties Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue. Additionally, the Fresno Office of the California Highway Patrol and the California Office of Emergency Services are assisting in the search efforts.

The park will release additional information as it becomes available.

Missing hiker, Ann Lory, was found alive this morning, at approximately 11:30 a.m., in Yosemite National Park. She was located by a family member working with Search and Rescue crews in the search area. Lory sustained injuries and has been transported to a local hospital for medical attention.

Lory was reported missing by her family on Saturday night, November 23, 2013. Her last known location was in the Foresta area, a small community on the border of Yosemite National Park. Approximately 70 Search and Rescue crew members have been searching for her since the initial report was received.

The park received assistance from, and would like to thank, the Madera, Fresno, Tuolumne, Kern, Merced, and Mariposa Counties Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue. Additionally, the Fresno Office of the California Highway Patrol and the California Office of Emergency Services assisted in the search effort.

Park dispatch received a report of an overdue hiker in the Foresta area around 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 23rd.

The hiker, a 60-year-old long-time resident of Foresta, a small community along the western portion of the park that can only be accessed via Highway 120 through the park, left her residence early that morning to hike a portion of the Old Coulterville Road, planning to return later that morning. When she failed to show up, her family reported her missing.

Immediately upon receiving the call, a small hasty team was sent to the location to conduct an initial search of the area. Search teams discovered the woman’s jacket on the side of the trail, but found no other sign of her.

Nighttime temperatures over the weekend hovered near freezing, with daytime temperatures remaining in the mid 50’s, so a full-scale search was launched the following morning when the hiker still had not returned. Search personnel including Yosemite National Park rangers, several dog teams, a California Highway Patrol helicopter out of Fresno, and search and rescue personnel from the Madera, Fresno, Tuolumne, Kern, Merced, and Mariposa County Sheriff’s Offices.

Search efforts continued into the morning hours of Monday, November 25th, with approximately 70 people looking for the missing hiker. At approximately 11 a.m. dispatch received a telephone call from a family member who was searching within the search area, reporting that they’d found the woman about a mile and a half from the trailhead.

Less than a half an hour later, rangers and park medics Ed Visnovske, David Pope and Aaron Smith and SAR crew member Cheyne Lempe arrived on scene and determined that she should be hoisted from the rocky slope on which she was found and transported to a local hospital.

Although the exact cause of the accident remains unclear, her injuries indicate she fell down a cliff, causing her to become immobile. Suspected injuries included a collapsed lung, broken ribs, a contusion to her head, and possible hypothermia.
