The second phase of tree hazard mitigation has concluded along the Aspen Valley Road burned in the Rim Fire. The low occupancy of this gated road indicated that dead and severely damaged trees that towered over or leaned toward the roadway would be cut and logs selectively removed toward prescribed residual loading of 2 - 5 logs per acre. Many dead and dying trees remain with a lower probability of striking the roadway. Workers and residents should anticipate reduced risk of tree failure onto the roadway, especially with stormy weather, and observe posted warnings. Some cleanup will continue as road conditions and contractor availability allow.
