Re: 3D Images from Shepherd's Crest

On Saturday we made the hike from Saddlebag Lake to Shepherd's Crest. We did not ascend the last few hundred feet to the peak. We weren't interested in scrambling over the large rocks on a steep slope. We stopped at the 11,450' level where the last of the stunted pines ended.

Along with panoramic images, I took a few sets of images to make anaglyphs. This location was especially suited for them as there was a wide separation at the same level which makes the images come out better.


This anaglyph is of mountains to the south of Upper McCable Lake. The 3D view dramatically shows the multiple peaks. Anyone know the name of any of the peaks? This may be the best anaglyph I've ever done. It's also a very easy one to see.

North Peak and foreground terrain. Mostly easy to see except the closest terrain in the lower right.

Shepherd's Crest Ridge. This one is more difficult to see as it requires the eyes to be refocused multiple times to see the great depth of the field.

I want to thank Chick-on for posting his route up to the crest from Secret Lake sometime in the past. Although the route wasn't obvious when we got there, his drawing was invaluable for setting us in the right direction as we neared the top.

Thanks for posting the links to your anaglyphs. They're all awesome.

Of the three, my favorite one is the second one of North Peak. Love how the diagonal ridge line leads your eyes from the foreground to North Peak and also love how the 3D effect lets you peer into those narrow fissures, crevices and gullies.
