A bit bummed about it being on the weekend as well. Have a trip planned for this weekend and bringing my two nieces for their first visit to Yosemite. Was hoping to get a few good hikes in with them but I'm sure they'll still have a great time - albeit a bit colder than anticipated.

Any suggestions on things to do with teenagers in the valley during a storm with possible snow?

Go out and take photos!

Yosemite Valley is at its most magical when it's dusted with snow!

If you look at the weather report for the valley it is calling for rain not snow ( snow level 5500 ft) and the storm will start to clear away Saturday evening. However, it may turn to snow over night on Friday so you might wake up on Saturday to some snow which will melt quickly. While the chance of rain on Saturday morning is 60%, the forecast calls for less than 1/4 inch so it might just be a drizzle. I have a teenager and when we are in National Parks we don't let weather keep us inside. Take rain gear and go out hiking. If your nieces like photography then they can concentrate on detail pictures of leaves, pine cones, etc if the views are clouded over. After a nice hike go to the Ahwahnee and have hot chocolate in front of the fire places. The bar at Yosemite Lodge might have the fireplace on and you can buy s'more kits at the bar or in the stores and roast marshmallows there. The bike rentals are closed but if you can bring your own bikes, that would be great. We have rode our bikes there in rain and in snow. If you want to see some snow you will most likely have to drive to a higher elevation but at this time, who knows if/when they will close Glacier Point or Tioga Road. Carrying chains is required starting in November and since this is a shoulder weekend, I am not sure if they will be checking if people are carrying chains yet. I think it depends on your nieces - it they are the outdoor type then a little sprinkles are not going to bother them and you can hike as planned.

Great advice. While they are not necessarily "outdoors types" they have been looking forward to going hiking in Yosemite, so I think they'll tough out some rain. Especially if after the hike they'll get hot cocoa and smores!
I'd love to see a dusting of snow on the valley floor and hope it happens. Would make for some wonderful photos.

I always love those times when it snows over night and you wake up to a winter wonderland. However, unless it is inches and inches, it will melt quickly so we always get up really early if there is a chance of snow overnight. Friday sounds like that is when the blunt of the storm will be there so by Saturday night it should be clearing up. I wish I was going up this weekend. Have a great time no matter what you decided to do.

They pulled it on us in boy sprouts. I went along with their gag but had figured out it wasn't real.

I'll be going Sunday for a previously planned trip. Was hoping for some valley color (still am) but now hoping for some snow capped mountain top shots. Especially from Glacier Point and Sentinel Dome.
