A new transportation option is on the horizon:

They did used to land planes on what is now the Wawona golf course.

And if these AeroMobiles ever become popular, I'm not recommending that people use them to land them somewhere within Yosemite itself, but that one could cut their travel time significantly by flying to a nearby general aviation airport like the small one in Lee Vining or the one near Mariposa or the Pine Mountain Lake Airport on the westside of Yosemite and driving in via the roads from there.

I didn't think you were recommending landing in the park. It was more of a historical note and not a viable option now with the golf course being there and the fact that it would not be an acceptable thing to do now.
