John Muir Trail at the Ice Cut has been opened. There are currently no winter trail closures in effect. Trails will be evaluated as conditions change.

Eeek - Pardon me on my ignorance but I'm generally clueless anyway

What is the "Ice Cut" trail on the JMT - I've never heard this reference before

It's the section between Clark Point and the top of Nevada Fall. It's closed in winter due to lots of ice on the trail and a not so nice drop just off the trail.

Last weekend there was actually a whiteboard by the Nevada Falls bathroom encouraging folks to take the JMT down.
