A photographer, Eric Duggan, just posted some of his photos of Yosemite in late December 2012 on Facebook. Quite a contrast to these past two winters. Really nice photos, worth a look (don't need to be a member of Facebook to view them):

I hope Yosemite gets some snow like that or even more next year. Question - Do you know how you post a picture here that is in iPhoto?

Yes, but it involves a number of steps. I don't know of a straightforward way where just several clicks would accomplish the task.

The most basic way to post photos from iPhoto tn this site would be to:
  1. Select the photos in iPhoto that you want to share.
  2. Export those photos to a folder on your Mac.
  3. Upload those photos to a photo sharing site like Flickr or picasaweb.google.com
  4. Generate a direct link of the photo itself (the link should end with a .jpg at the end of the link) on the photo sharing website that you uploaded the photo to.
  5. Paste that link on your message in this forum by clicking on the Insert Image URL button () located on the toolbar above the message text input box.

Snowy Night at Camp4

One freezing night while packing up to leave from a weekend trip I decided to freeze my ass of some more and try an HDR shot. Looks like this would have been in Jan 2006. Not much snow that trip
hmmm

You want snow and reeealy frigid?

I was standing there for 20 minutes or longer getting covered in snow while taking this.

It could have been a lot easier if there was a simple to generate a proper URL (that ends with the name of the jpg file) when sharing a photo from iPhoto via Apple's own Photostream or iCloud Photo webpages. But alas there's not.

1. On Flickr, find the image you want to share.
2. Click on the Share icon in the lower righthand corner of the screen.
3. Under Code, select BBCode.
4. Choose the size of the image you want to share (from Square & Thumbnail to Large & Original).

5a. Cut & Paste the entire code generated to have your photo shown in your message on this forum, plus a link to your Flickr account and the original photo.

OR

5b. Cut & past ONLY the code generated between [img] and [/img] tags (including the [img] and [/img] tags themselves) to have only your photo shown in your message, but with no link back to your Flickr account.

A photo from my Flickr account. April 1, 2012:

I'll remember to bring the size down next time...(and check for duplicates!)

Ah yes, winter. Maybe if we all post enough of our favorite snow shots of years past we can help convince the snow to return. At least we will have some nice pictures to look at in the mean time. Here is one of my favorites...Clouds Rest, April 2011 from Mt Watkins

Awesome photo! At first it looked like 2 people staring at a gigantic poster, and then I noticed the snow tracks, and poles, and snowshoes...

Snow covering all areas of the loop road, all Valley areas with an inch or three happens most winters. But under several inches of snow has always been so uncommon it usually doesn't occur most winters. Snow level and thus freezing usually needs to drop down to at least 2k in order for snow to overcome the latent heat in sun exposed ground areas. Also snow doesn't last long on sunny south facing cliff areas as those massive granite faces store a lot of heat.

FB link images have a strong blue cast on snow. In Photoshop CS6 Image...Color Balance move Yellow slider into negative (into blue) and maybe a wee Red to (into cyan).

Story and image of a really uncommon epic snowy day in the valley of about 18 inches that fell during the day:

This is great! I think we need more "themed" threads where everyone posts their favorite photos (says the guy who hasn't posted a winter photo yet.... I'll look).

True. Saddens me a little, because a snowy Yosemite winter is always (or, rather, was always) a hightlight of the photographic year for me.

Beautiful shots. I agree, winter is something very special in Yosemite, especially in the Valley.

Beautiful photos. I've been planning a winter trip the last 3 years. It's probably my fault it stopped snowing there. :-(
