Yosemite Fire Crews and assisting agencies continue to daily monitor our lightning fires that have occurred this summer. Our managed lightning fires include:

DARK: this fire is approximately 40 acres and confined to natural barriers, trails and handline. A few interior heavies are burning themselves out. Occasional light smoke may be visible.

MIDDLE: this fire is 14.1 acres, with creeping and smoldering activity, mostly to the north toward Middle Tuolumne River. Periodically smoke may be visible from Tioga Pass Road.

CATHEDRAL: The Cathedral Fire is now 16 acres. Yosemite Fire Management has fire crews posted along the John Muir Trail during the heat of the day to ensure hiker safety.

WHITE CASCADE:8 acres, with monitoring periodically by crews.

STUBBLEFIELD: 2 acres, with a few interior heavies burning themselves out. This fire is being monitored by aerial resources.

QUARTZITE: this is a single strike tree, with no spread potential due to sparse fuels. This fire is being monitored by aerial resources and other crews.

There are regional fires burning in the area that are creating periods of heavy smoke in Yosemite. The Rough Fire to the south of us is now over 32,000 acres with 3% containment. This is a lightning strike fire that began on July 31, 2015. Beginning on Friday there will be both a Type 1 and a Type 2 team managing this fire.
The Walker Fire to the East of Yosemite is a human caused fire that started 8/14/2015 and has burned over 3,715 acres. It is now 45% contained. Tioga Pass Road is fully open, with reminders to the public that there is no stopping in the lower 6 miles of this road.

All employees and visitors are urged to be diligent in any use of fire, including smoking. We are in very high and extreme fire danger due to hot temperatures and low humidity. Please help us in keeping all staff, visitors and Yosemite safe.
