Prescribed fires and fuel thinning projects:
- The Taft Toe prescribed Fire has been mopped up and the Valley Loop Trail has been re-opened.
- The proposed Mariposa Grove prescribed fire has been postponed indefinitely. The area received nearly an inch of rain and the fuels are too wet.
- Fuels treatments will concentrate on burning vegetation piles along the Wawona Road near the South Entrance Station. The thinning project has been on-going since last winter and spring. Conditions are such that the piles will burn well and it is anticipated that no creep would be possible from the pile footprint. Crews will patrol all piles until no heat remains.
- Future pile burning will include the remaining pile locations in the park which include: Wawona Road south of entrance uphill side of Hwy 41, El Portal School, and the Rancheria area, Yosemite Valley NPS Housing area, Crane Flat Look-out Road, Hetch Hetchy entrance station, the Foresta area along Le Conte Road, and at Chinquapin.
Additionally, the vegetation debris piles in Foresta and Wawona were ignited Wednesday during the rain. They will take a few days to burn out.
