i have a campsite in Upper Pines for tomorrow with my adult son and his 3 kids (ages 9-13 yrs old), but my son doesn't want to go if its going to be raining (which its suppose to do).... my question is (not that any of you can predict the future THAT good lol), is what can be expected? a down pour? or just light sprinkles? i really don't want to cancel this trip, yet i don't want it to be a bummer with rain either... i only live 2 & 1/2 hrs away, so it isn't the end of the world if we end up not going, its just you don't come across campsites like this very easily.

My forecast specialists are currently avoiding the rain by
visiting some Green Island... though it's probably more Yellow or Emerald.

Anywho.. it's gonna rain Friday... no doubt... 1/2" ...
Pretty much all day...

Even if it's not tomorrow. or the previous day...

I probably won't even go Friday...

We've been keeping an eye on the weather at home (Yosemite)... We r having unsettled weather here too, and have gotten at least a light drizzle every day.

Wednesday in Yos Valley, I'd expect at least a little bit wet...

What's a little water? Hike to Turtle Back Dome. It's paved.

May I make a suggestion? Yosemite Valley is an amazing place to be during stormy weather. If you have a way to camp to minimize exposure and dress for the weather, being in the Valley during a storm can be a transcendent experience. Pour offs from all kinds of nooks and cranny's. Low clouds, fog, etc. Stunning. My fondest memories are from stormy weather in Yosemite. Just sayin...Also, being nearby gives you a easy bug-out option if it gets too hairy. You should go!

I have to agree with u! We've gone/stayed during some very wet storms.. Once, we came back to find a number of tents in our sites and others were floating! A bit of a challenge (but the gear mostly worked) and we enjoyed ourselves... But some others who were on the trip weren't as happy with the rain.

It's all about perspective (attitude, acceptance, experience, etc) and it sounds like Forrestranger may be with some folks who may not be as receptive... It's a tough call in general. If I'm with newbies, I think about the rain good and hard. With the usual group, we are cautious wrt safety, but some of our most memorable trips included storms.

Anyway, we had rain on our hike today here, as advertised. Wonder how it'll turn out in the Valley...

my two cents, I was riding bikes in the valley this past Saturday, but before i went, even up to Saturday morning I was getting weather reports that there was up to a 40% chance of rain in Yosemite, Boy were they wrong, at least not in the valley It was a beautiful day. Sometimes the weather channels dont get it right, especially in Yosemite. Its a big place and when they say a chance of rain they usually mean somewhere in the park, not necessarily on the valley floor.

It's not an exact science.

Keep looking... all the way up to the date you go...

https://www.wunderground.com/us/ca/yosemite-national-park/

Look at the graph and the percentages and the numbers.

May 5 is now showing 90% with 8/10 inch. Since it's May 4th...
It's gonna rain tomorrow... Let's look at the webcam tomorrow and
see what it looks like...

I agree with Boomtown. Go in the rain. Have fun. Jump in the puddles.
