The Big Oak Flat Road (Hwy 120) in Yosemite National Park is Closed

Visitors now have access to Yosemite Valley via Hwy 120

The Big Oak Flat Road in Yosemite National Park (Hwy 120) has reopened to all vehicular traffic following a rockfall that occurred on Sunday morning, February 5, 2017. Visitors are urged to drive with caution along the road, as there is the possibility of more mud and debris entering the roadway.

There is also water and debris on both the El Portal Road (Hwy 140) and Wawona Road (Hwy 41) due to recent storm activity. All visitors coming to Yosemite National Park are encouraged to drive with caution. Several storm systems will be moving through Yosemite National Park over the next several days. Temporary road closures may go into effect at any time for the safety of park visitors.

El Portal Road and Big Oak Flat Road are currently closed. All Yosemite Valley commuters should plan on using Wawona Road to commute tonight.

El Portal Road is closed to all but administrative traffic (on-duty employees) from Pohono Bridge to Parkline due to flooding and culvert damage near the El Portal Road/Big Oak Flat Road intersection. The only access to Yosemite Valley is via Wawona Road. Foresta is currently accessible from the Big Oak Flat Entrance. (Admin traffic: please drive slowly through the El Portal/Big Oak Flat Road intersection.)

Road crews are working to divert runoff to reduce flooding at the intersection and the road damage at The Narrows appears to be stable.

The tentative plan for tomorrow is to allow traffic with convoys that approximately match the YARTS schedule. If that occurs, YARTS should be able to operate normally. Of course, circumstances may change.

The Big Oak Flat Road and El Portal Roads are now open. Please watch for water and rocks on the road

"The Narrows" is just east of "The Dam."

We really should start a map with these place names.

The Dam is the 120/140 junction. The Narrows is the stretch just east of that. They widened The Narrows a few years ago and The Dam was removed in 2004.

As I remember it the 'Narrows' received significant damage during the 97 flood also.
Despite the various law suites being thrown about that section received emergency repairs.
I heard when things settled down and they did the real road repairs that Volkswagen sized voids were found and filled.

It sounds like the weather has really hit the area in and around Yosemite!
