The Big Oak Flat Road will remain closed until further notice. NPS and Federal Highways have been regularly evaluating the road and planning for repairs. Additional engineering assessments will be done on Tuesday. NPS may have more information then. A portion of the road and underlying slope is sliding downhill. Each rain event exacerbates the sliding. (While the area is snowy right now, the earlier storms brought rain.)

NPS knows this road closure is a major inconvenience for visitors and employees. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to ensure that the road is safe. NPS staff are working with federal highway engineers to get the road open as quickly possible, but your safety is their number one concern.

Hi eeek,

we're planning to visit Yosemite 3-4-5th of May.
Do you expect the road to be open again then?

I would not count on it. Highway 140, along the Merced River, is a much nicer drive anyway. Bring your gold pan and do some panning at Briceburg.
