The effort to open roads over the Sierra Nevada mountains has begun in earnest. The California Department of Transportation has begun its spring clearing of Highway 108 over Sonora Pass and Highway 89 over Monitor Pass.

That article misquoted Caltrans when it stated that Caltrans hopes to have the roads open by the beginning of trout season on April 29.

According the Caltrans District 10 Facebook post (that this and other news articles are basing their stories on) Caltrans is hoping to have Hwy 108 open only to Kennedy Meadows Road by April 29:

“The Department intends to open the closure gates at Eagle Meadows and Kennedy Meadows after reaching those points on SR-108. Caltrans will announce each gate opening as it occurs.

Caltrans’ goal is to open Sonora Pass to Kennedy Meadows Road in time for the beginning of trout season, Saturday, April 29, 2017.”
