While there are some that will say this was stupid, you need to keep in mind that Alex prepared, planned and trained for this for years. Free soloing El Cap was a very calculated project and I applaud both his physical and mental strength. This was an amazing feat!

Perhaps he should retire on this landmark achievement. Pushing the envelope too far doesn't necessarily enhance the profession. For him, individually, yes. It's incredible. But does this belittle other achievements, rendering them inferior unfairly?

Dean Potter seemed to just go for the next thrill, and that didn't end so well.
