Great shot here of the valley looking west. Can anyone tell where this is taken from?

Awesome photo. My guess about the place: some of the rocks lining the south part of the valley wall, about a mile west of the trailhead for the four mile trail - down below Taft point, although not quite as far west, but above one of the gulleys below Taft.

West of the trailhead for Four Mile? Is that really far enough east for this angle?

I think so. Play with Google Earth and see what you find...or go to the valley and try it . It also fits with his description about the area being one (a) requiring some climbing skills and (b) being prone to rockfall, which is why he won't disclose it himself.
