SONORA, California – Many campgrounds and day use areas on the Stanislaus National Forest will begin closing for the season Oct. 1. Depending on their locations, some recreation sites will remain open for a few more weeks as crews prepare the facilities for winter. Fall weather means snow and cold temperatures are returning soon to the Forest. Recreation staff must winterize campgrounds and other facilities before snowfall makes it difficult to access these sites. Crews shut off water, empty vault toilet restrooms and secure equipment when preparing a recreation site for winter conditions.
