The Inyo National Forest is planning to replace the toilets at June Lake Beach this fall. The current toilets, which are flush toilets that were installed in 1975, have had long-term maintenance issues that are both expensive and time-consuming to repair. The two existing flush buildings will be demolished and replaced with four double vault toilets. The new toilets will feature an awning over a concrete pad, similar to the new vault toilets in Tuolumne Grove in Yosemite National Park. Vault toilets are a more reliable and sustainable solution for waste management than flush toilets for this highly visited area. They save money, time, and water due to their low operation and maintenance costs.

The June Lake Beach parking areas will be closed starting October 16 for the safety of the public during the demolition of the existing toilets. They will re-open after the demolition is completed and then close again during the installation of the vault toilets. The beach will remain opened throughout the project.

The portable toilets at June Lake Beach will remain in place through October 11. After that, visitors should not plan on toilet facilities being open at the beach until after the project is completed.
