Re: Weather next week - camping in Valley

Looks like it will be wet next week. Any issues with camping in the valley? We've got campsites reserved and have camped in rain before but not thunderstorms.

The water levels in the Merced River and Tenaya Creek were still fairly high last week, so the only concerns might be sites that are right next to the water or low lying spots that had previously flooded. And that would only be worrisome if there was a localized downpour...

And, of course, hiking up Half Dome in a thunderstorm is not advised

This shows projected river levels. You don't have to worry about flooding in the campgrounds unless the level hits 9.5 ft., and that's only in Lower and North Pines river sites. Looks like you should be OK.

Have camped many times in the Valley and other places with thunderstorms and/or steady rain.

Have a good weather proof tent with sealed bathtub floor, if possible.

This system doesn’t seem too wet, so doubt u will have the *floating* tent one of our group had one year! They were not in tent at time... And it was a BIG tent! It dumped! The valley campsites are so packed the water just pools and runs. U can see depressions and tell tale signs during the season.

Everything in the tent survived fine. Little damp in spots, but they had big airbeds and stayed dry. U know drill: keep stuff from touching walls and as much off the floor as possible. Non wicking materials.
