While taking a selfie, sad. It's unclear from which vista point or trail this occurred.

820 Foot fall?

That's the mystery. I don't recall any 200 foot cliffs to climb nearby Nevada F. At least not in place where a fall like that would be witnessed by many people. Then again, it's unclear how many people saw it. Maybe the body was recovered downstream at an elevation that's 820 ft lower than the brink?

Not the first to fall from Nevada Falls, sadly enough. And to fall from there, you have to ignore the signs and climb over the railing. Just like the other people who have died there. sigh.

It is so sad that this happens just about every year, primarily to teens who think they are immune to gravity or the flow of water. Until I heard it was Nevada Fall I was wondering, "Oh no, not Vernal Fall again!"

Nevada Fall is just under 600 feet. Sources and articles state he fell 820? So I guessed maybe Columbia Rock. But these incidents do tend to happen in close proximity to waterfalls.

Prior to the location of the fall being made public, I also
guessed Columbia Rock as a possibility. The UYF Trail gets
a lot of use, there is something cool in the background and
it must be at least that high above the floor. Regardless, that
would've been a tough phone call.

Yeah, this seems to happen every year at Nevada or Vernal Falls. What a shame.

To be fair, there's a railing at one section on the north side of the falls, and you'd have to be pretty foolish to ignore that railing. But there's no railing along the lip of the cliff south of the falls. We were up there last year in June and sat on that south side close to the raging water (and it WAS raging in June 2017), but stayed a safe distance from both the cliff and the water.

There was a Sunday in May 2013 when I went up to Yosemite Falls and then to Eagle Peak, and it later transpired that at the same time someone - an older fellow, not a kid - went over Vernal or Nevada falls, apparently after climbing over the railing.

I took a photo of a guy standing in the water near Nevada Falls this year, as last year, we were contacted by NPS about a missing hiker at Nevada Falls the day we were there. Last year, the guy perished, but this year, the guy apparently made it, able to continue on, doing stupid stuff.

(not quite the geezer...I hiked up Eagle Peak in June 2013 too...the 15th...)

Detailed accounting from witnesses, tourists. Some of it is graphic, so "warning" just in case.
